Phentermine is used with a doctor-approved exercise, behavior change, and reduced-calorie diet program to help you lose weight. This medication is used by certain overweight people, such as those who are obese or having a weight-related medical problems. How to use Phentermine

Take this medication through the mouth as directed by your doctor, normally once a day, 1 hour before breakfast or 1 to 2 hours after breakfast. If required, your doctor may adjust your dose to take a small dose up to 3 times a day. Carefully follow your doctor’s directives. Taking Phentermine late in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia)..

If you are using sustained-release capsules, the dose is usually taken once a day before breakfast or  10 to 14 hours at least before bedtime. Always swallow the medication whole. Do not crush or chew sustained-release capsules, as doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.

If you are taking the tablets made to dissolve in the mouth, the dose is usually taken once a day in the morning, with or without food.  Make sure your hands are dry before handling the tablet. Put your dose on top of the tongue till it dissolves, then swallow it with or without water.

The dose and length of treatment are determined by your medical condition and response to treatment. Your doctor will adjust the dose to find the most suitable dose for you. Discuss the risks, benefits and the length of Phentermine treatment, with your doctor. To get the most benefits, take this medication regularly, exactly as directed, and for as long as prescribed by your doctor.

Side Effects

Dizziness, dry mouth, difficulty sleeping, irritability, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation can occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, immediately tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Remember that Phentermine has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Most people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Phentermine may raise your blood pressure. Regularly check your blood pressure  and tell your doctor if the results are high.

Inform your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat, mental/mood changes (such as agitation, uncontrolled anger, hallucinations, nervousness). Or uncontrolled muscle movements, change in sexual ability/interest.

Stop taking this medication and get medical help right away if you suffer from any very serious side effects. These could be: severe headache, trouble speaking, seizure, weakness on one side of the body, vision changes (such as blurred vision).
